"If you look and see nothing, you must simply look harder." - Lady Kiku

One of the many trippy concepts in profound Shogun which deservedly headlines the 76th Emmy Awards with 25 nominations across the main and creative categories.

It's followed by The Bear (Behind you chef!) and Only Murders in the Building with 23 each, including nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series for both. How do you possibly choose between them?

If we were forced into a choice against our will, then it has to go to Only Murders. Why?

If we count the laughs in each, we laughed more. Also, The Bear won last year and Only Murders hasn't won the category before so it's time.

But enough of this competitiveness, let's forget we said that and move on to the other nominees in this second Emmys event of the year.

The delayed 2023 awards happened in January this year because of the Tinseltown Troubles and this year's ceremony takes place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on 15 September.

It airs live on M-Net on Monday 16 September at 02h00, with a rebroadcast at 21h00.

The creative arts categories will be awarded the week before and won't be airing on TV.

As you pour over the nominees, please note: we've included the original American broadcaster for each series in brackets which may differ from the South African broadcaster or streamer e.g. in the case of The Bear, Only Murders and Shogun, they're on Hulu and FX in the US but on Disney+ here.

Here's a wrap of the key category nominees with a selection of nominations that interest us specifically, including three nominations for Trevor Noah related specials (overall tallies at the end):
