Whoa... ships are sinking in a sea of amateur hours during primetime.
First it was SABC2's Muvhango that
shut down two weeks ago and now BET's Queendom starts re-runs from tonight, only four months after its premiere.
As you may know, the show's been plagued by a behind-the-scenes financial crisis involving the production house Clive Morris Productions who haven't paid the actors and crew in months.
We asked BET about it and this is what they tell us:
BET is aware of payment delays by Clive Morris Productions to cast and crew of Queendom.
Queendom is a co-production, with BET responsible for half of the investment, which has been fulfilled by BET Africa.
However, CMP has encountered difficulties in securing their share of the co-funding, resulting in the delayed payments to our valued cast and crew.
We are engaging with CMP, including cast and crew, to urgently resolve the matter.
And now there are no more new episodes to air.
The show starts a run of repeats from tonight, 22 July, in double bills from 18h30 to 19h30.
Also, Catch-Up stopped loading new episodes two weeks ago and there are no more teasers available after last Thursday (18 July).
According to BET, the show's on a break. They haven't said that it's been cancelled so let's hope they're busy urgently resolving the matter for fans who've committed their precious evenings to it.
Clearly it hasn't been happening urgently enough considering the fact that it's reached this desperate point.
This is BET's statement:
Queendom is currently on a season break. From today, 22 July 2024, viewers who missed the hype the first time around can catch Queendom double-bill reruns, Monday to Thursday at 18:30 – 19:30 on BET (DStv channel 129).
We'll keep you posted when we hear anything further.
