Drama series based on the stage play of the same name by Nico Scheepers which revolves around three estranged brothers who find their way back to the family farm where secrets, heartbreak and the truth surrounding their mother's death threaten the path to redemption.
Father Lourens (Frank Opperman) farms with his eldest son, Frans (Geon Nel), on Nêrens, the family farm in the Northern Cape.
Lourens has never gotten over the death of his wife, Katja (Tinarie van Wyk-Loots), and has a strained relationship with his sons.
Ronnie (Albert Pretorius), the middle son, is divorced and struggling. He is the father of little Lourens (Arnold Swart).
Andries (De Klerk Oelofse) is the youngest brother and travels the world.
Maggie (Ilse Klink) is the Adendorff family's housekeeper and like a mother to the boys.
Her son, Jan-Jan (Dean Balie) and his wife, Chrissie (Bianca Flanders), also live on the farm, and in Part I, Lourens gave Jan-Jan a piece of land to farm on.
Ans Adendorff (Marion Holm) is Lourens' sister and owns the town's pub.
Lorrie (Shana Mans) is a veterinarian, and by the end of Part I, she and Frans finally become a couple.
Suzette (Daneel van der Walt) is a police officer and Ronnie's love interest. Suzette and little Lourens have a very close relationship.
Fleur (Melissa Willering), a Dutch woman, is Andries' girlfriend. They met during his travels.
In the last episode of Part I, it is revealed that little Ronnie hid in the back of the pick-up truck his mother, Katja, was driving.
She was startled when he suddenly sat up, overturned the truck and died of the injuries she sustained in the crash – something Ronnie has always felt guilty about.
After the shaky journey back to Nêrens, the brothers and their father try to reconnect after years of estrangement.
But how do you learn to love again when the dagger of a mother's death is still lodged in everyone's heart?
As with Part I, a deeper understanding of the situation they find themselves in, is pieced together through scenes set both in the present and in the past when the three brothers were still young.
In the present, the three brothers gather at Nêrens for Lourens' 70th birthday.
The day after the party, where harsh words were exchanged, the brothers go to the church Katja built and start restoring it.
Andries, however, decides to pick up his backpack and go travelling again.
