Click for Murder

Channel: S3
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: True Crime, Documentary Series, Docu-Drama, Technology

Click for Murder

The Internet has changed the way we live. It has changed the way we shop, the way we date and the way we work.

It has also changed the way we kill.

This chilling series reveals some of the most disturbing crimes in recent history where the Internet has been used as a tool to trick, torture and kill innocent victims lured from a virtual world where nothing was as it seemed.

In the comfort and security of our own homes, we feel that we are safe. You wouldn't let a stranger into your home and especially not your bedroom.

However, every time we log in online to Facebook, dating sites, fan clubs, chat rooms or online gaming, that is exactly what we are doing.

Presented by television crime journalist Donal MacIntyre, Click for Murder exposes the darker side of our ever-growing cyber world, where one mistake can cost you your life.

In each self-contained episode, Donal explores a different murder: examining the role that the Internet and social networks played in triggering or facilitating the fatal act of violence.

The story of the murder is pieced together through evidence from personal interviews with family and former friends of the killers and victims, journalists and others who covered the story, visits to key sites connected with the crimes, archive material of the killers and footage of their arrests and trials, and impressionistic drama reconstructions – both of online interactions and of the crimes themselves.

In his 'Investigation Lab', Donal meets with notable criminal psychologists and cybercrime experts to draw new conclusions and shed fresh light on these horrific acts of violence.

The motivation behind each cyber killing is revealed, as we build up a picture of the dark and deadly virtual world in which both perpetrator and victim lived, and how their online meeting ultimately led to murder.

Through slick storytelling and expert analysis, Click for Murder exposes the true dangers of social media, makes us question the amount of personal information we share online, and gives viewers an insight to ensure they will never become victims themselves.

Cases include:

15-year-old A student Joshua Davies seemed the perfect boyfriend for 14-year-old Rebecca Aylward.

But when they split up, he waged a 10-month online war of bullying and lies which ended with him brutally murdering his ex-girlfriend.

15-year-old schoolboy Sofyen Belamouadden was stabbed to death by a vicious mob in the middle of the London rush hour.

Orchestrated on mobile messaging by rival sixth form students, it was a crime that shocked the nation.

Stefano Brizzi used a gay dating app to hook up with police officer Gordon Semple for sex. But when Gordon went round to Brizzi's flat for their online date, he was never seen alive again...

Say Nothing

Channel: Disney+
TX Time: 00h01
Genre: Drama, Period Drama, Miniseries

Say Nothing

Say Nothing is a nine-episode story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, based on the book by Patrick Radden Keefe.

Spanning four decades, the series opens with the shocking disappearance of Jean McConville, a single mother of 10 who was abducted from her home in 1972 and never seen alive again.

Telling the story of various Irish Republican Army (IRA) members, Say Nothing explores the extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected, and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence.

The series stars Lola Petticrew as Dolours Price and Hazel Doupe as Marian Price, young women who became potent symbols of radical politics.

Anthony Boyle stars as Brendan Hughes, a charismatic but conflicted military strategist, and Josh Finan as Gerry Adams, a leading political operator who would go on to negotiate peace and has always denied having any involvement with the IRA.

Maxine Peake stars as older Dolours Price.

In the series premiere, "The Cause": A story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland.

Dolours Price comes from an IRA family. Her father's been to prison for planting bombs and her mother hides guns in the garden.

When the city of Belfast erupts into violence, Dolours swears she's not going to get involved...

Pompeii: The New Dig

Channel: BBC Earth (DStv 184)
TX Time: 19h00
Genre: Documentary Series, History

Pompeii: The New Dig

This three-part series follows the most extensive archaeological excavation in Pompeii for a generation.

Nearly two years in the making, with exclusive access to the dig and the all-Italian team of archaeologists, the series follows the excavation of an entire city block, Insula 10, in the north of the city.

Told through the drama of the dig, the stunning discoveries and stylised fresco-inspired animations, which imagine what life was like in Pompeii before the eruption and the horror faced by the residents as Vesuvius erupted in AD 79.

The excavation aims to unearth the buildings, their purpose, who lived there, and what happened to them during the eruption.

Alongside the present tense story of the dig, the series investigates the timeline of the eruption.

From the violent earthquakes that shook the city in the years before the eruption to the day of the disaster, Vesuvius first slowly buries Pompeii and then delivers the killer blows in the form of pyroclastic flows.

And, for the first time, pioneering new research finds hard evidence that some Pompeiians escaped the city and survived the eruption.

From evidence hidden in Pompeii's storeroom of prominent Pompeiians, the investigation discovers inscriptions that date from after the eruption and bear the same name in the area surrounding the destroyed city.

In the series premiere, "The Bodies": Over the course of a year, an all-Italian team of archaeologists excavate an entire city block, Insula 10, in the north of the city.

The team aims to unearth the buildings, their purpose, who lived there and what happened to them during the eruption.

The excavation begins with the discovery of a large brick-built oven.

It begins as a mystery, as it is too big to be just for a private residence.

But further investigations reveal it was part of a thriving commercial bakery, selling its bread wholesale to the people of Pompeii.

Uncanny

Channel: S3
TX Time: 22h00
Genre: Supernatural, Paranormal, Documentary Series

Uncanny

Inspired by the BBC Sounds podcast of the same name, Uncanny features real-life stories of apparently supernatural encounters told by the people they happened to - experiences that appear to defy logical explanation.

Or do they?

In each of the three episodes, Danny Robins investigates a brand new case and tries to help those involved understand what happened to them.

Can their experiences be explained – or could they really be evidence of the supernatural?

Was a young girl in rural Cambridgeshire visited by the apparition of an Edwardian school teacher?

Were a teenage boy and his family in County Durham subjected to a vicious poltergeist attack in the 1980s?

And were three Oxford students preyed upon by a malevolent force in the early '90s?

Danny Robins is the host and writer of hit BBC Sounds podcast Uncanny.

Assisting Danny in his investigations are sceptic Dr Ciarán O'Keeffe and parapsychologist Evelyn Hollow, who pick apart the details of each case to work out what might have happened.

Danny will also invite viewers to get in touch with their own explanations, and provide case updates in which he explores viewers' theories on the stories.

Do ghosts exist? Is the impossible possible? Are you Team Believer or Team Sceptic?

Case 1: Miss Howard

In the first case of the series, Danny is visited in his studio by Cate, who is haunted by memories of her childhood and wants answers to a mystery that's troubled her all her life.

Cate grew up in an old house in the quintessentially English village of Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, in the 1970s.

After her father started renovation works on the property, Cate began to be visited a mysterious woman known simply as Miss Howard.

Who was she? Could she have been a ghost disturbed by the building works? Might she be the spirit of a former resident? Or is there a rational explanation?

Danny's investigation into the case sees him interview former residents of the house.

He also dives into the history of the village, explores the theory of 'time slips', and examines the hallucinatory effects of domestic mould.

The audience is invited to share their thoughts and help crack the case.

Case 2: The Bearpark Poltergeist

In the second case, Danny is visited in his studio by Ian.

As a teenager, growing up in a pit community in County Durham, Ian experienced phenomena that seemed to defy rational explanation.

He believes his house was haunted by an entity which would shake drawers, ring bells and even flush the toilet.

And Ian wasn't the only person to witness strange things in the house...

But could there be a scientific explanation for all this?

With help from Ciarán and Evelyn, Danny investigates Bearpark's industrial history, the science of sleep paralysis, and the mechanics of a flushing toilet.

His quest for answers even takes him deep into the earth, into an abandoned mine shaft...

Case 3: The Oxford Exorcism

It's the early 1990s and, while many students their age are out raving, three Theology students at Oxford University are about to experience the house share from hell.

In this third and final case, Danny Robins meets Heather who, 30 years ago, moves into a student house with two friends – a house which they believe is haunted by a malevolent entity.

Events become so frightening that the group are compelled to call in an exorcist - but the exorcism doesn't go according to plan.

It's one of the most unsettling cases Danny has ever come across. But could it simply be a shared delusion?

To find an answer, Danny must track down Heather's housemates to find out what they remember about events.
