New period drama The Count: Love and Honor premieres on Telemundo on Monday 17 February at 22h00, replacing
Lord of the Skies which ends the Thursday before.
It's based on the classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo by French author Alexandre Dumas and tells the story of a situation that would drive the most sane person crazy.
Except The Count doesn't go cuckoo, he remains sane as a result of a second chance.
The stars
Fernando Colunga and Ana Brenda Contreras headline as Alejandro and Mariana.
Ana played Cristal Jennings/Carrington on the 2018/2019 Dynasty reboot - but only for Season 3.
The role was recast with Daniella Alonso for seasons 3 to 5. According to
TV Line, Ana left the show for "personal reasons".
Ana as Mariana in The Count.
Fernando as Alejandro.
Scenario
The Count begins in the 1930s with the love story of Alejandro Gaitán, a humble young capataz (foreman) of a farm; and Mariana, a beautiful and rebellious young woman.
But Josefina de Zambrano, Mariana's stepmother, and Gerardo Villarreal, will conspire to turn their relationship into a living hell.
Alejandro will be charged with a double homicide and without anyone knowing his fate, he will be transferred to a dungeon on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean.
There he will meet Amador Guzmán, a Spanish nobleman serving a life sentence who will reveal to Alejandro that he has a hidden treasure, leaving him this fortune before his death.
When Alejandro manages to escape in the '50s, he returns to San Jacinto with an immense fortune and discovers that Mariana married Gerardo and that he was left for dead.
He then decides to execute a plan to bring justice against those who betrayed him, especially Mariana who he believes is part of the conspiracy.
Alejandro returns as the powerful Count Joaquín de Montenegro, unleashing a dangerous quest for revenge against those responsible for his 17 years of wrongful imprisonment.
