EPISODE TWO
I caught up with the latest episode of
America’s Next Top Model at the weekend and had the best time. It’s only been two weeks but already their personalities are surprisingly so specific.
You’d think with them being models they’d all blend into one but it’s not the case at all - espesh with how many hectic Pigs there are amongst them and how ultra seriously they’re taking everything.
The only trouble is I don’t have any faves and I don’t reckon it’s gonna change because I loathe them all and lurve every moment of it.
The thing I found so ultra groovy about the episode is that for the first time ever I properly understood why there’s a difference between regular models and those who are Super and what it means when someone’s the latter.
The moment it happened was when Tyra introduced everyone to their task of learning to ramp the catwalk using clips of herself doing it at various fashion shows as an example of how awesome she is.
Watching her is like watching a gorge light sparkling with life, made more wow by the way the glitz of the fashion interacts with everything she does.
Once the clips were over and she demonstrated how she did it and spoke about how a model needed their own unique style, my respect for schmodels suddenly went up a zillion percent.
The way each of them needed to find something personal within themselves and then share it on the ramp and their photograph isn’t something I’ve ever considered they’d need to do.
I’ve always known somewhere deep down they must be individuals obviously, but I’ve always assumed they only ever access plastic, never knowing they’re supposed to find something different - nor how vulnerable it makes them when they do.
As they all tried out their own versions of the hip-thrusty walks for leggy Jay the Gay I was struck by how crazy and brave each of them are to put themselves through it. Doing it in competition with one another they way are and not having a chortle about it has to be killer.
The photographs they had taken for the men’s magazine afterwards were the most hectic with how they had to express the core of their sex appeal, letting it all come through their eyes first, then their bodies.
Doing this with absolute confidence can’t be an easy thing and by the end of it I was impressed at how well many of them managed it but was very irritated that bible bashing Robin’s pictures came out as well as they did.
How’s her mind for giving religion the worst name in the history of the world ever? The trouble is her arch enemy atheist Elyse needs just as much of a thump for self-righteously believing she’s better than everyone else with all her Medical School rubbish.
I agreed with the judges that her pale, scrawniness doesn’t impress and I don’t like how she seperates herself from everyone else when they’re eating. From the looks of it’s an anti-social, attention-seeking eating thing she’s got going on.
The things she had to say about everyone in her cubicle diary room entry were hysterical though - but not quite as excellent as Ebony’s face when they were all ridiculously praying in the circle.
If you ask me Ebony’s taking it way too desperately conscientiously. All that practicing she had going on into the late hours did her much more harm than good at their final test-thing in front of those crap blue curtains.
I think that’s the room they had
such trouble setting up when the show started and they needed to lug everything up 80 flights. The judges were all really on the mark with everyone and very interesting I thought - Janice Dickinson with her weather-beaten voice and mug particularly.
Their eliminating Katie for looking like a calendar girl was a perfect decision because she totally did – even though I would never for a moment have thought it if they didn’t say it.
What was weird when she left was how she said everyone would definitely see her on the covers of magazines no matter what. It seems such a strange thing to want – like why would this be so important to someone?
I’m pleased that I’m getting the hang of this modelling business - it adds a new extra zing of dimension to the Pig fest that’s already started because I actually just don’t see how someone can be a supermodel and not prove themselves to be super in at least one other way too.
Did you catch the episode? What were your thoughts?
