The position up for grabs this week on You're Hired is for a Park Warden with JHB City Parks. Iris Shipalane and George Matome will battle it out for the sought-after position of Park Warden.
IrisIris Shipalane was born in Soweto in 1979. She comes from a family of seven and they were all raised by their single mother. Iris started primary school in Soweto but matriculated in the Eastrand. She was married and has three children.
Iris is currently unemployed. She started working at a Hair Salon, then opened her own home based Salon, but soon closed the business because it was not challenging enough. In 2004 she did a Security Course in Johannesburg, and then started working for a Security Company.
During her free time Iris loves to spend time with her children and read. She says she is proud of what she has achieved in life and very proud of being a mother of three children. Asked if there was anything she would do differently if she had the chance to do it again, she replied, "I would have liked for my family to be close, if I could do that I'd be the happiest person."
Iris says she wants the job of the Park Warden for the challenge and the experience. She declares that because she's a mother, she has learned to deal with people, have patience, listen and communicate with them.
"I'm a very friendly person so communicating is an advantage for me," says Iris. And where would she like to see herself in five years time? "I would like to be successful in whatever I do," she concludes.
George MatomeBorn in Pretoria in 1985, George Matome attended Morkulodi Primary and then matriculated at Tsogo High School. George furthered his studies at Wits Technikon doing a one-year course on Policing and Traffic Law. He still resides in Pretoria with his mother, stepfather and two siblings. He is definitely not single.
George has no working experience. In his spare time he loves to read, be with his friends, family and playing the position of Striker for his local community Soccer club "Sisha".
George says he is very proud of what he has achieved in his life, since most of his peers in his location are drawn to the easy life. He believes that he has achieved everything he has through hard work and persistence, i.e. going to Technikon.
Is there anything George would do differently if he had the chance to do it again? "I would have loved to see my family reunited again," he replied.
George's role model is Rapulani Seiphemo. Asked why, he responds, "Not only for his acting abilities but the man has a strong sense of personality and is very humble."
George describes himself as a friendly person, who can easily communicate with people. His main aim in life is to achieve as much experience and success in his life, then give back to his community. He would like to develop projects within his community to help young adults.
