---------------------------------------------------
On the eve of Jacob Zuma’s corruption trial we visit his ancestral village in Nkandla, deep in rural Zululand as it was known. Speaking to his younger
brother Michael, a cousin and a local chief, we find a community that is unconditionally loyal to its beloved son and leader.
Through interviews with Zuma himself and his family, we piece together his early history. He grew up in the lush hills of Nkandla and he spent his early years herding cattle for his father. Zuma speaks about his years on Robben Island and subsequent life in exile.
We then trace his rise to power in the ANC, and his fall from grace following the rape trial and corruption charges.
Political analyst professor Adam Habib assesses the damage to Zuma’s political career and his chances of succeeding Mbeki as president in 2009.
This biographical documentary provides an insight into the life and times of, Jacob Zuma, and his rags to riches rise to power within the ANC. It also includes
rare footage of Zuma and President Thabo Mbeki during their years in exile. It is produced by Johann Abrahams and was filmed by Thulo Monare.
