Episode 20
Two for the Road

After watching the entire episode twice, and then the last five minutes yet again, I realized that he really did do it. Oh My God! Michael took the gun from Ana-Lucia, proceeded to shoot her, Libby and then himself!!!!!!!!!!

Quite a bit of info was revealed on this episode. It’s a pity that few people will actually remember any of it. Everything else that happened in this episode pales by comparison to Michael’s … act and I am having trouble recalling details. All I can see is Michael’s shaking self as he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger. I am going to try and get the summary done so that we can get to the bit that we all want to talk about.

This Ana-Lucia centric episode, like I stated above, is really full of little clues and information that may prove vital in upcoming episodes.

In Ana’s flashback, we learn that her mother suspects her of the murder of the guy who was suspected to have shot her. Ana-Lucia quits the force and later meets Jacks father in a bar. He offers her a job as a bodyguard in Australia. She agrees to go to Australia to "protect him" and he agrees not to ask too many questions.

When in Australia, they spend most of their days drinking until late one night he comes knocking on her door. They go to a house in the suburbs where Dr Shepard proceeds to go up to the door while Ana-Lucia waits in the car. A woman opens the door and a shouting match ensues. He tells the woman he has a right to see his daughter!!

Ana later tries to get him to go back to the states, but he refuses. Later still, she’s waiting to board her plane and calls her mother and asks to come back home. So Jack has a sister. I’ve always assumed he was an only child, so I wonder if he knows about this mystery sister. Something tells me he doesn’t. I’m thinking… maybe Claire, but that’s kindof obvious.

Anyways, back on the island, Jack and Kate carry Michael back to the hatch, where Ana-Lucia is cutting up fruit for Fake Henry. She takes in his fruit to him, but Fake Henry seems to be on a hunger strike. She asks him a question and when he whispers something, she leans in close. Henry attacks her suddenly and tries to kill her.

He tells her she they (the Others) are good people, and that Ana-Lucia is the bad person – she killed two of them after all. It’s only Locke’s interaction that saves her life – he knocks Fake Henry out with one of his crutches.

Ana-Lucia heads for the beach where she cleans up while Locke ties Fake Henry up and shuts him up in the armory. Ana-Lucia is now desperate for a gun, so she approaches Sawyer, who laughs at her and tells her to scram. She follows him, but he hears her. He laughs at her yet again and she attacks him. They roll around on the ground and finally Ana-Lucia seduces Sawyer. Not that he minded, I’m sure. Ha ha. Take that Kate! Can you just see the look of bewilderment and hurt on her face when she hears the news!

At the hatch, Locke is interrogating Fake Henry. He asks him why he attacked Ana-Lucia and didn’t attack him (Locke). He had the opportunity. "Because you're one of the good ones, John," says Henry. Locke doesn't look flattered as much as confused. Fake Henry doesn’t elaborate, but when asked why the Others would kill him, Fake Henry says “That the man in charge is a brilliant man, but not a forgiving one” Fake Henry goes on to say that he failed his mission and that when Danielle caught him in her trap, he was on his way to the camp… that he was coming for Locke.

Back at the hatch, Jack tries reviving Michael. Ana-Lucia returns to the hatch where Jack asks her what happened to her head and Locke responds that she slipped and hurt her head. Ana-Lucia looks at Locke but doesn’t correct him. Michael chooses that moment to be revived.

When Michael realizes that he’s back at the hatch, he tells them that he found the Others. He tells them that the Others wore dirty clothes, worn clothes and that they were simple. I could just see the wheels in Kate’s mind going as she remembered (I’m sure) the stuff she found in the other hatch. Michael mentions a third hatch, and tells the group that as soon as he gets his strength back, he’s going to take them to the Others to get his boy back.

Some time later, Jack approaches Locke who’s still trying to draw the map, and apologizes for being an ass when Locke locked Sayid in the armory with Fake Henry. All is forgiven and they are now the Dream Team again. So the Dream team approaches Kate to go with them to get the guns back from Sawyer. This twosome is now a threesome. Ana-Lucia volunteers to stay and look after Fake Henry.

So, off stomp the Dream Team. Meanwhile, Hurley approaches Sayid for the radio that they built. He’s planning a date for himself and Libby and wants to impress her. Sayid tells him about the beach that he took Shannon too. Hurley and Libby head for the beach, but Hurley gets lost in the jungle and they end up on their beach. Libby sends Hurley off to collect wine and she goes to the hatch.

The Dream team approaches Sawyer who is reading and is not too interested. Jack pulls out his gun on Sawyer and when Sawyer reaches for his gun, he realizes that Ana-Lucia has taken it. What?? He’s realized this now only?? He didn’t notice his gun was missing when he was getting dressed??? Geez, and you wonder how these people have survived so long on this island!!

Back the hatch, Ana-Lucia opens the armory. She pulls the gun from her waistband, and points it at Henry, but she can’t do it. Later, she’s sitting on the couch when Michael approaches her. She tells him that she just couldn’t do it…she could pull the trigger. He offers to do it instead.

Ana-Lucia leans back on the couch as Michael looks at the door. And then he looks at the gun, looking like he too is having a hard time actually going through with it. "I'm sorry," he tells the gun. "For what?" asks a barely interested Ana-Lucia. Michael looks at her, raises the gun, and fires. She gasps and after a moment falls back on the couch. Ana-Lucia's not moving, and Michael's still standing there, pointing the gun, quivering.

“Michael” asks a surprised Libby, who suddenly walks in. Michael turns around, startled. He so startled that he fires twice, and she falls to the floor.

Michael finally calms down enough to walk over to the armory door and opens it. He steps inside, and Henry slowly stands up, watching him. They don't say anything. Michael raises his arm, points the gun towards his left shoulder or arm, and pulls the trigger.

Heavens!!!!!! I didn’t see that one coming. I don’t think he intended killing Libby. Yikes.
I have three theories about Michael.
1. He’s decided he rather be an Other and is sent back to get Henry and cause general mayhem and destruction
2. He’s been brainwashed
3. Walt’s life has been threatened, and unless Michael sets Henry free, Walt will be killed.

Or maybe even a combination of the three, who knows. Just about everybody who has seen this episode before me (and that’s quite a few people) have told me that it’s the biggest shocker of the season. Wow, how’s that for excellent writing. I have so much to say about this, but it all boils down to the three theories above.

I cannot wait for the next episode. If next week is that stupid recap episode, I may just break and Google this damned show!
