Episode 22
Three Minutes

I have such conflicting thoughts and emotions about Michael. On the one hand I think it takes a certain amount of deviousness and ruthlessness to achieve what he has. On the other, Michael is just a sad, desperate, desperate father.

I cannot justify the deaths of Ana-Lucia and Libby though, and I do agree that he should not get away with this, but if you were in his situation, what would you do to ensure the protection of your child? I don’t have children, but I think that were I in a similar situation, I may just do the same thing.

These people are living an extreme situation, in extreme conditions – it’s only natural that what they do and feel will be extreme as well. At some point Extreme is going to become the norm.

But anyway, the flashback belonged to Michael this week and centered on what happened to him after he ran off to look for Walt. I really like these flashback sequences that take us to things that have happened on the island; there should be more of it.

And before I forget, I also really liked the sequence of “previously’s” (you know… previously, on Lost… Blah blah blah) on this week’s episode. Back to Michael, we flashback to the point that Michael locks up Jack and Locke in the armory.

He has had a “conversation” (via the computer) with Walt, and Walt’s given him directions to where he is. I still don’t believe that it was Walt who lured him away. Anyway, Michael runs off into the jungle only to be overwhelmed and captured by Zeke and the Others.

Alex (Danielle’s Alex, it is confirmed) is left in charge of him and inquires about Claire. But she also knocks him out. Michael is taken to what appears to be their camp. They are indeed teepees, and fishing nets etc, just like Michael said.

He meets a woman who calls herself Ms Clue (?), and she wants information about Walt. For a week, Michael is interrogated by this woman. Finally, she tells him that his friends have captured one of the Others, and that if Michael frees him, they will let him and Walt go.

Michael demands that he see Walt. She agrees, giving him three minutes. Michael is then reunited with Walt, who seems unharmed but terrified. Walt tells him “They’re just pretending” and tries sneaking in cryptic clues to Michael. Michael, however, is totally overwhelmed and can only think of freedom for his son.

Meanwhile, back in present time, Michael is trying to convince everyone that they ought to leave that very moment to go to the Others. Hurley interrupts and reminds everyone that there are two funerals to be had. Jack states that they will leave the following morning.

Michael is really not happy, but doesn’t say anything. As he is cleaning the blood of the floor in the hatch (most probably to soothe his mounting guilt) Eko walks in and helps him. Eko relates a story about a young boy who killed his dog and feared he would be going to hell. Michael leaves the hatch to puke. Puke out the guilt, Michael!!! Jack stumbles across him.

Charlie meanwhile, approaches Claire with what is apparently the vaccine that was injected into Aaron. He tells her that he tried it on himself first to make sure it was safe. He also tells her that it should last a while. It seemed like Charlie was going to ask her if they could be friends again when Jack walks into view with Michael.

Michael is welcomed back warmly into the group, while Sawyer and Jack head off the collect the weapons, but is waylaid by Sayid, who wants in on the action. Sawyer is eager for Sayid to join them, but Jack states that it’s Michael’s call.

You know, I find it so hard to believe that Jack is not being all uptight and irrational about this whole thing. When you want the guy to question, and be all uppity, he just sits back and lets things happen. Even Michael looks like he finds it hard to believe that all his BS seemed to have worked.

Anyway, Sawyer and Jack are gathering the weapons, when Sawyer drops a bombshell on Jack about him and Ana-Lucia. “I screwed her” he tells Jack. That’s our Mr. Class for you. Jack asks him why he’s telling him all this stuff. Sawyer replies that Jack is the closest thing to a friend he has on this island. Not surprisingly, Jack looks stunned. It’s news to him too.

Charlie, much to his credit, has decided to finish the church on his own. But the guy is half the size of Eko and not surprisingly, is having trouble. But he’s trying!! Vincent runs up and deposits one of the statues (containing the heroin) at this feet. Charlie thinks its somebody’s idea of a joke and follows Vincent to Saywer’s tent, where he finds the rest of the stash.

Charlie takes them to the ocean, where he throws them in. You go boy!!! I’m so proud of you. Charlie looks a bit to his left when he’s done throwing everything, and there sits Locke – watching him.

Later, Jack & Sawyer inform Michael that Sayid is joining them, and Michael goes all ballistic. That there should have been one of the many warning signs but Jack and Sawyer seem totally ignorant to it. Michael goes to Sayid and tells him that “he’s out”. Sayid listens and then agrees – he’s out.

Michael goes to the gravesite where Kate and Hurley are digging graves for the recently deceased. Kudos to Kate (albeit grudged) for doing it. Michael tries easing his guilt again by helping her. Hurley informs him that he is not going with them… at which point Michael goes all ballistic again.

Later, everyone’s gathering for the funerals. Sayid walks next to Jack and tells him “I think Michael’s been compromised” Well Yippee! It’s about frikkin time! Thank heavens for Sayid and his cool logic! Sayid also believes that Michael set Henry free; he tells Jack that they have one night to figure out what to do.

So, now Jack is giving Ana-Lucia's eulogy, which is bad. It could have been worse -could be Sawyer. Actually, come to think of it, Sawyer standing up there and saying, "I screwed her" would be kind of awesome. Hurley tearfully eulogises over Libby and tells Michael “I’m coming with you” Michael looks relieved.

Sun looks out into the ocean and screams out “Boat. Boat” And sure enough, there’s a boat on the ocean.

Ok, spoilers below. If you want to read it, highlight it with your mouse.

I know that Desmond is in the boat. I read some bloody magazine that said so. Very fitting actually. The season started with him and is now going to end with him. Not much of a spoiler, I know. But I don’t want to spoil it for someone who doesn’t’ know and doesn’t wish to know.

End Spoiler.

To echo Charlie “Bloody Hell!”

I actually feel a bit sorry for Michael. What an elaborate setup! And he walked straight into their hands. Tsk Tsk! I wonder what the Others want with Kate, Sawyer, Jack and Hurley. Hurley??? I can’t understand that one… unless they want his money. If it where just the other 3 I could say that yes, there’s some reasoning behind it. But Hurley???

Here’s an opportunity for the losties to finally get a step ahead of the Others. I cannot wait to see how this all unfolds. I see that the finale is the highest rated episode of the series yet!!
