War in the Middle East. Poverty back home. In the face of so much suffering, it is often impossible to see any light at the end of the tunnel leaving us feeling overwhelmed and unable to contemplate doing anything.
But the children of one tiny, conservative town in middle America have taught us all an important lesson. They have demonstrated that it is possible to change the world, one person at a time.
It began with a lesson on tolerance and ended in an international movie. A class of ordinary American schoolchildren decided to educate themselves about the holocaust and set about collecting 6 million paperclips to represent all the Jews killed by the Nazis. What happened as a result of this, is both humbling and inspiring.
Recently the principal of the school, together with two children, visited South Africa to share their experiences. Third Degree brings you exclusive interviews with them and takes a look at the internationally acclaimed documentary “Paperclips”.
