RIP 7de Laan creator Danie Odendaal died on Wednesday 30 October at his home in Langebaan where he's lived for the past six years. Cause of his death hasn't been disclosed. He was 77. Did you know? Danie had the idea for 7de Laan in the mid-1980s when he’d have breakfast at an Oppiekoffie type shop in Melville where he’d watch people go by and wonder about their stories. It premiered in 2000. >>

RIP Days of Our Lives star Drake "John Black" Hogestyn died on Saturday 28 September, the day before his birthday. His family released a statement saying that he'd been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 70.

RIP Shooting Stars and Isikizi star Timmy Kwebulana died on Thursday 19 September after what his family describe as a short illness. They released a statement announcing his death. Timmy was also known for his starring roles in e.tv's Traffic! and SABC1's Forced Love, and for his roles in comedies such as Velaphi and Fishy Feshuns. He was in his 80s. Timmy's the fourth South African actor we know of who's died within a week :( >>

RIP Paul Lückhoff, who played Oom Wimpie du Toit on 10 seasons of Binnelanders, died on Tuesday 16 September. The cause hasn't been disclosed. Paul had a starring role as Felix Venter in the SABC2 mini-series Hopeville and appeared in numerous Afrikaans series including Arsenaal, Dryfsand and Plek van die Vleisvreters. He was 70. >>

RIP Isidingo ledge Darlington "Papa G" Michaels has died. The news was confirmed by the SABC on Friday 13 September. Darlington's other starring roles include the Mzansi Magic sitcom Chandies, the soccer drama series Vula Vala and The Road, where he played Themba Mashinini who wrote his memoirs about his life in Sofiatown. RIP South African TV's teaching ledge William Smith died on Wednesday 21 August at the age of 85. He'd been diagnosed with cancer and was living with his family in Perth. In 2019 he was awarded the presidential Order of Boabab in Silver for: "His excellent contribution to the teaching and demystification of mathematics and science. Through the medium of television, he made mathematics and science accessible even to the most marginalised in our society."

RIP Crown Gospel Music Awards founder and Ukhozi FM presenter Zanele Mbokazi died on Sunday 12 August at Parklands Hospital. Her husband announced the news on social media. Zanele was diagnosed with lung cancer in April after being admitted to hospital for shortness of breath. She was 52.

RIP Former Egoli actress Esta TerBlanche was found dead at her home in Los Angeles on Friday (19 July), aged 51. The cause is unknown. According to her publicist Lisa Rodrigo, there's going to be an autopsy. Esta played Bienkie on Egoli in the early 90s before moving to America where she played Hungarian princess Gillian Andrassy on soapie All My Children for four years, returning for a guest appearance in 2011. She lived between the US and South Africa at the time of her death. >>

RIP 90210 and Charmed star Shannen Doherty died on Saturday 13 July, four years after being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. She had breast cancer in 2015, it went into remission and returned in 2020, spreading to her brain in 2023. Shannen's first notable TV role was as 11-year-old Jenny Wilder on the classic historical series Little House on the Prairie in 1982. She was 53. Pics, vid in the comments. >>

Adrian's TV acting credits include roles on Sterlopers, Gen, Isidingo, Zero Tolerance, Streaks and Suidooster and he directed on Isidingo, Backstage, Madam & Eve, Shado's and Scandal!. He was 51.

RIP DiepCity actress Lebohang “Lettie” Mpyana has died. A family spokesperson posted the news on social media on behalf of her parents saying she died after a short illness. Lebo played Ringo's wife Khelina on both seasons and won the 2021 Viewers' Choice Royalty Award for Best Actress. She was 34.

RIP Friends star Matthew Perry died suddenly on Saturday 28 October at his home in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, emergency services responded to a call for someone in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival they found him unresponsive in his jacuzzi and said he appears to have drowned. No autopsy has been done yet. He was 54.

RIP Euphoria star Angus Cloud died on Monday 31 July, a week after his father's funeral. TMZ reports that his mother called 911 on Monday morning, saying it was a possible overdose and that he had no pulse. Emergency services pronounced him deceased when they arrived. He'd just turned 25.

RIP Binnelanders actor Bradley Olivier died on Thursday 20 July after being on life support since Monday when a family spokesperson released a confusing statement, saying he was on life support but referring to him as if he'd died. The family released a second statement on Thursday and didn't reveal the cause of his death. Various media alleged it was a heart attack. He was 36.

RIP Big Nuz member Mandla "Mampintsha" Maphumulo died on Saturday 24 December at the age of 40 after suffering a stroke. He was admitted to hospital on Thursday after a Big Nuz reunion concert in honour of deceased group member R Mashesha. Mampintsha headlined the reality show Uthando Lodumo with his wife Babes Wodumo which followed their journey to their traditional wedding. They have a son together.
