Hypocrite! This is the same Pearl Thusi that said she no longer listens to R. Kelly in “an effort to support the movement fighting GBV”. Now that GBV issue has hit closer to home amongst her friends, she is excited to give Tall A$$ Mo airtime. When she voiced her opinion on GBV, was that performative activism? Does she even care about GBV issues?

In reference, the trial of the actor, Mangaliso Ngema, was held live on social media, and he was convicted by means of a Kangaroo court. Why can't we do the same for Tall A$$ Mo? Does she know that victims of GBV don't always have the luxury getting justice through conventional ways i.e through court? And, this is so unfortunate that victims can get justice through the court of public opinion. For GBV victims, this is definetely the last resort of seeking justice. But, then again, I somewhat understand Mome' standing by her husband. When she said “in sickness and in health”, she was also signing up for all the nonsense he's coming with. So, strength to her.

Also, I'm looking at Pearl's fellow celebrities, friends, social/media commentators and co. on twitter and not calling her out for being a GBV apologist. Your Masasa, Florence, Rami, Phil etc. are all quite, and not taking it to themselves to at least “school” their fav - Pearl on GBV, or at least support Lerato Moloi. They did an amazing job in fighting for Altovise and Lorraine ensuring that they get their justice through social activism, through kangaroo court. Why can't they stand with Lerato on this one? Where is the flock that stood with Lorraine and Altovise? Is this what selective activism looks like? Does a kangaroo court apply to a certain people, who are the exceptions, and why? So many questions I have around this issue. Although, I understand the real enemy here is GBV, I'm appalled, this feels like we are taking a ten steps back on the progress on GBV.

>>So many questions I have around this issue.<<

#MeToo Siphelele.

Everything about these incidents is so extremely hectic I'm finding it impossible to draw a conclusion on how to deal with suspects of GBV.

On one hand, it's unjust and dangerous to name and shame a suspect before they've been found guilty - it means anyone can be targeted and destroyed when they might be innocent, which would be highly immoral and horrific for the person accused.

BUT, on another hand, it's happening because of how many women have never seen justice for the crimes committed against them.

For the brutality of the courts that won't give them justice and the legal and police systems that aren't on their side.

It's the result of the desperation of centuries of abuse and so many despicable crimes against women that it's created an explosive situation where women feel the only way to make it stop is to take radical action.

Re-Pearl Thusi... I'm wondering.. maybe she didn't know about Lerato's case?

Seems unlikely but she is very self-involved in her Twitter account and maybe she didn't see Lerato's statement - AND did no research before interviewing him.

Could be lack of professionalism instead of anti-GBV and now she's stuck as to how to respond because it looks bad either way.

Aha.. I see she defended the interview, equating it to Gayle King's interview with R. Kelly - and then deleted the tweet, so she did know!

It's beyond insane that she could have thought it's okay to be so excited about interviewing someone in the midst of legal proceedings for rape.

It's a lol-fest, Tashi. She equated the interview with the one with Gayle King and R. kelly. She equated herself with Gail King -- with all her experience in psychology, I cringed!

Re: Kangaroo Court/Court of Public Opinion. Its indeed a double edged sword. In such a court, there is no the presumption of innocence, they're convicting the alleged perpetrator BEFORE vetting all allegations. In fact, there is no difference between “guilty” and being “accused”. Once, there are allegations about you, then your automatically “guilty”. This is a dangerous cultural shift, an ungoverned court with no set of rules, capable of ruining a person's life.

Admittedly, GBV is a sensitive issue, and you can't detach emotions from the issue. I find that quite often, there's no objective view, especially the debates on social media. Its either their way or the highway. The crisp question is: if the courts of law can’t get things right on the GBV issue (and other issues), then why does a “Kangaroo Court” think they can get it right? Is there a yardstick they use to find out if allegations are true? And, where is accountability if the “Kangaroo court” get it wrong, or get to identify the wrong person? What are the consequences thereon? I seem to be having a lot more unanswered questions around this issue, the more I think about it.

Look at the likes of the twitter influencer/corporate lawyer, Tumi Sole - who was wrongfully accused of sexual harassment ... the “kangaroo court” was up in arms, and convicted him of being guilty, asked the brands he works for to drop him, only to find out that his accuser was lying. Surely for Tumi it all worked out in the end, he had to clean his name/reputation through the legal route. What about the ones who don't know the law, and therefore can't clean their names because they don't know the law/rights? Slippery slope, I tell you.
