Bio
Conny Setjeo is a South African actress best known for playing herself - an HIV+ woman infected by her ex-husband - in the SABC1 drama series Soul City, from 2005-2007.
Watching an episode of Soul City in 1999, she decided to have her HIV status tested and discovered she had contracted the virus from her husband, who had started an affair a few months into their marriage.
A few years later she called the Soul City Institute to ask why actresses were being used to portray women like herself - and not the women themselves.
She was promptly offered a role as herself - in a storyline that replicated her real life one - and starred in the series for three seasons.
She now runs her own business, Setjeo and Associates, which advises business on HIV strategies.
