Bio
Harald Richter is a South African actor and singer best known for his leading role as Charl Retief in the kykNET soapie Villa Rosa, since 2004.
Born in Pretoria and raised in Johannesburg, Richter concluded his studies at the Technikon Pretoria (now known as the Tshwane University of Technology) in 1994.
Having made his professional debut during 1993 as soloist on the Opera stage, he started his career as a freelance artist.
1996 saw him leave the country to audition for a position in Germany where he was offered a position as singer at the acclaimed Mainz Staatsoper. He later returned to South Africa.
Since then he has continued performing in a wide variety of genres, from stage dramas to television soaps, from presenting to commercials and from opera to pantomime and cabarets. He also starred in the revue Naked Boys Singing.
Currently he plays one of the main characters, the quasi-Camel man Charl Retief, in the kykNET soap Villa Rosa. He has been part of more than 1100 episodes since 2004.
Other television series he has acted in include Deadline, Brothers, Egoli, 7de Laan, Zero Tolerance, Generations, Scout Safari, The Res, Molo Fish and Jozi Streets.
He has performed in numerous stage productions as well, including Tosca, Romeo & Juliet, Carmen, Fiddler on the Roof, Nunsense 3, Fiela's Child, Skilpoppe and Die Fledermaus.
Harald has released an album, "Ou Kraalliedjies", in which he brings all the golden old Afrikaans hits from the first half of the previous century back to life. Lieb Bester accompanies him on accordion, as they perform the known favourites, performed by Charles Jacobie in his day, with modern flair.
This album won the South African Afrikaans music "Vonk" award, for the best Boeremusiek Album of 2009.
He also is the producer and director of the improvisational sitcom Proesstraat, also on kykNET.
In 2012 he became one of the six original presenters of the kykNET breakfast programme Dagbreek.
