Bio
Jon Bernthal is an American actor best known for his starring role as Shane in the television horror series The Walking Dead.
He also had a starring role as Duncan Carmello in the television sitcom The Class, from 2006-2007.
Bernthal's television credits include roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Boston Legal, Jonny Zero, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Eastwick and the movie Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman.
He has also guest starred in How I Met Your Mother, Without a Trace and CSI: Miami.
Bernthal appeared in the feature films Mary/Mary, Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding and World Trade Center directed by Oliver Stone. Other movies include Day Zero, Bar Starz and The Air I Breathe.
Amongst his stage credits are the Off-Broadway production of The 5th of July at New York's Signature Theatre, the Off-Off-Broadway production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Proof at the Portland Stage Company, and This is Our Youth at the Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C.
He has performed in more than 20 plays regionally and Off-Broadway, including many with his own theatre company Fovea Floods.
Bernthal attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. He then studied at The Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia, where he also played baseball in the European Professional Baseball Federation.
While in Moscow, he was noticed by the director of Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at the American Repertory Theatre and was invited to obtain his Master of Fine Arts. He graduated from the program in 2002.
