Bio
Austin Basis is an American actor best known for his starring role as Math, Baze's (Kristoffer Polaha) childhood friend and roommate, in the television drama series Life Unexpected, from 2010-2011.
He currently stars as J.T. Forbes, the childhood friend of Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan), who has been helping Keller guard his terrible secret, in the science fiction police procedural television drama series Beauty and the Beast, since 2012.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Basis attended Binghamton University, where he received a bachelor of arts in Theatre. He was then accepted by the Actors Studio Drama School, where he received a masters of fine arts in Acting.
After graduating, Basis became a lifetime member of the Actors Studio where he had the privilege of working with the likes of Al Pacino, Faye Dunaway and Estelle Parsons, and studying under the tutelage of Ellen Burstyn, Harvey Keitel, Arthur Penn and Lee Grant.
Basis' television debut was in the Comedy Central film Porn 'n' Chicken.
His big break came in 2004 when he was cast in a guest starring role in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He then landed a role in a pilot called Spellbound, with Christine Baranski, Barry Bostwick and Dave Annable.
His other television credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, NCIS, Life on Mars, Supernatural and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
His film credits include The Other End of the Line, My Sassy Girl, American Zombie, Boxboarders! and Dorian Blues.
Basis has also been featured in national commercial spots for Toys 'R' Us, Wendy's, Dr Pepper, State Farm, Burger King and AT&T, as well as the Ad Council's Feed the Pig Public Service Announcement campaign in which he played the pig, Benjamin Bankes.
