James Stewart is an Australian actor best known for his role as Jake Barton in the television dramedy series Packed to the Rafters, from 2009-2013.
Before devoting himself completely to acting, an 18-year-old James formed a band with soprano Katie Noonan, his then flat-mate. They were later joined by James' twin brother Nick and Katie's brother Tyrone and George was born.
James left the band to concentrate on acting just as the band found success with their first album Polyserena.
After acting on stage in a string of plays, he starred in the TV series Breakers alongside the likes of Don Hany and Ada Nicodemou before appearing in the US TV series Beastmaster.
He then returned to the stage appearing in classics such as Richard II, Love's Labour's Lost, Macbeth and As You Like It.
In 2007 he starred as Jim in the Queensland Theatre Company's production of The Glass Menagerie alongside Conrad Coleby. The role won James a Matilda Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Helpmann Nomination.
He appeared in the Australian feature film, Subdivision, as well as H2O, and a much lauded Guest Role in Sea Patrol.
James was then offered the role of Jesse in the critically acclaimed production of The Narcissist, which played at La Boite Theatre in Brisbane and then enjoyed a sellout season for the Sydney Theatre Company at the Opera House.
Shortly after it finished its run, he won the role of Jake in Packed to the Rafters.
Born and raised in Melbourne, his family moved to the Gold Coast when he was in his early teens. Now residing in Sydney, James spends his spare time reading and playing his guitar.
