Josie Borain is a South African ex-supermodel and photographer best known as a Calvin Klein girl, in the 1980s. She was a judge of the M-Net reality series Sharp Shooter, in 2010.
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Josie was officially recognised as the first South African Supermodel after securing dozens of international campaigns during her time in Paris and New York.
By the end of her 15-year modeling career she had worked with the world's biggest icons in the fashion industry such as Bruce Weber, Ralph Lauren, Steven Meisel, Calvin Klein, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon to name just a few.
Her face has graced the covers of dozens of magazines, TV commercials and advertising campaigns including the most famous of all billboards in Times Square, New York.
Extending on her diverse talents she was the Fashion Editor for Fair Lady Magazine, Cape Town in 1997 through to 1998 and the website coordinator for 24.com where she established a comprehensive database of South Africa's Model Agencies (The Industry) on the Web.
Further success came by establishing her name as a leading photographer with over 20 years' experience doing portraits, self-portraits and reportage. Her work continues to be published worldwide for numerous publications.
Josie has shot fashion and portraits for Italian Elle, actor Jared Leto for Interview Magazine (U.S.), Photo Magazine (France), Elle Décor (Italy) and some local publications including Icon, Visi and Elle.
In 2003 she published her own life story in a book, Josie, You and Me by Bell-Roberts. It shows her travels and work and a true behind-the-scenes look at the modelling industry captured by her own photography.
During her time living in New York, Josie returned to school and studied directing and film making at the prestigious New York University Film School in 1988.
She has shot a Community Chest commercial (Hunt-Lascaris Durban/Vuka Awards 2004), three Mr Price TV ads (2004), a Red Cross Children's Hospital Documentary (2005), directed a music video for James Stewart and a short movie for Woolworths for the Fairlady Cathrine Awards.
In 2013 she was a judge on the reality competition series Africa's Next Top Model.
Photography is now her main profession and she is married to actor Langley Kirkwood. The couple have three children: Peter-Raven, Willow and Phoenix.
