Bio
Slikour is a South African musician best known as one of the founding members of the record-breaking hip hop group Skwatta Kamp. As a member of Skwatta Kamp, Slikour noticed a niche in the market and developed a successful solo career.
In 2005 Slikour released his first album Ventilation Mixtape Vol.1, followed by Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 2 in 2007.
The Ventilation Mixtape series is about merging young artists that think alike in a space of creativity. Slikour gives both albums an assertive tone but still shows his human side of sincere fears and vulnerabilities.
Slikour was nominated for SAMAs (South African Music Award) at the 14th and 15th Annual South African Music Awards, a Channel O Music Award and was a winner of the public vote category Hit Single Of The Year at the 2008 Metro FM Music Awards for the record Umsindo.
Slikour has made his presence felt at many South African award shows including the first ever SABC1 Stars of Mzansi, where he presented the leading R1-million award prize alongside Miss South Africa. He also handed over the statute for Best Dance Album at SAMA 2008.
The chart-topping track Dreamer from Ventilation Mixtape Vol.2 was selected to be the official song for the Heartlines Stand For Good Campaign, which encouraged members of the public to perform acts of kindness to their fellow countrymen. Slikour is also an ambassador for The Reach for a Dream Foundation.
In 2009 Slikour was requested to travel to New York to be the South African representative for SAB Miller's Global Fresh Collective campaign (GFC). The GFC is an innovative group of thinkers from around the world, all with a deep interest, passion and love for emerging music, talent and related creative subjects.
Slikour is half owner of Buttabing Entertainment (with Lebo "Shugasmakx" Mothibe), a record label and artist management organisation started in 2002. His portfolio further expands into a multitude of other business interest including Ventilation Productions, which has developed into a dynamic marketing agency and production house (established 2006).
In 2010 Slikour released a third chapter to his solo career, Ventilation Vol. 3 (VV3) with features from a variety of acclaimed musicians such as Tamara Dey, Ntando, La Vuvuzela, Craig Heinz (Watershed), Tumisho Masha, Zakhi Ibrahim, Kwesta and Kabelo Mabalane.
The first single from the album, Phum'Elayinini, caused a stir along with its tongue-in-cheek music video. The music video for Dubula 2.0 begins a seven-part music video movie, VV3 The Movie, which was supported by other singles and videos in 2011, including Phuta Lami, Goin Wild, Hell Yeah and the Dubula 2.0 Remix ft AKA, Khuli Chana, Proverb, JR and Kwesta.
In 2011 Slikour began hosting the SABC1 music entertainment show Jam Alley Crew vs Crew. In 2013 he joined the e.tv dance reality competition Step Up or Step Out as a new co-host.
In 2015 he was one of the 10 celebrity contestants on the eighth season of the reality competition series Strictly Come Dancing. He was partnered with professional dancer Michelle Leigh Oppenshaw.
