Bio
Fantasia Barrino, or simply Fantasia, is a prominent American pop, R&B and soul singer who rose to fame as the winner of the third season of the television series American Idol in 2004.
Fantasia signed with music legend and RCA Records chairman Clive Davis to record her debut album. Davis assembled an all-star team for Fantasia, including super hit makers Missy Elliott, Jermaine Dupri, The Underdogs, Harold Lilly and Soulshock & Karlin. The result was Free Yourself, a platinum album.
At just 20 years of age, Fantasia was the first artist in the history of the Billboards Hot 100 chart to debut at #1 with her first single, I Believe. Shortly thereafter, she became the first singer to simultaneously have two of the top three songs on the Billboard chart. Her single, Truth Is, spent 14 weeks in the number one position.
Fantasia's second album featured the #1 R&B single, When I See U, and achieved certified gold status.
Although music is her first love, Fantasia has garnered success in a multitude of disciplines. In 2005, Fantasia penned her first memoir, Life is Not a Fairytale, which was a New York Times bestseller. She made her acting debut starring as herself in a television movie based on the book.
In 2007, Fantasia accepted Oprah Winfrey's offer to play the lead role in the Broadway play, The Color Purple. Fantasia has performed as the much-celebrated Celie for sold-out audiences all over the country.
In 2009, Fantasia began working on her highly-anticipated third CD and was approached by VH1 to star in her own reality television show. The series provides a unique look into Fantasia's multifaceted life, her role as a young mother and her close-knit, musical family.
