Kitty Phetla is a South African ballet dancer, choreographer and model best known to television audiences as a judge on the SABC1 dance reality competition Turn It Out, from 2011-2012.
A principal dancer for the Ballet Theatre Afrikan, Phetla trained under Artistic Director Martin Schönberg as well as teachers from the Ballet Theatre Afrikan Academy from the age of 10.
Her training included classical ballet, Spanish dance, contemporary dance and afro-fusion. She also received extensive training as a dance teacher, obtaining her Cecchetti Associate Examination, an international teaching qualification in Classical Ballet.
During her training she received the Natalie Stern Award for the most Artistic Solo performance in 1998 and the Ballet and Modern Senior Championships award at the Concours de Ballet in Johannesburg in 2000.
In the same year she competed at the Prix De Lausanne in Switzerland and danced through to the finals at the 2001 Cecchetti International Competition in Melbourne, Australia.
She has toured throughout South Africa as a principal dancer in all of Ballet Theatre Afrikan's seasons and productions including Debut, Cinderella, En Route, Voila, The Adventures of Alice and The Stars of Tomorrow.
She performed as a guest artist at the State Theatre as Queen of the Wilis in Swan Lake. One of the highlights of her career was her performance of "The Dying Swan" at the Royal Carre Theatre at the Faranani concert for Nelson Mandela in Amsterdam in 2002.
