Elliott Gould is an American actor best known for his roles in the feature films M*A*S*H, Bob & Carol and Ted & Alice, for which he received an Oscar nomination.
He also has a recurring role as Ezra, an old friend of Ray's and a frequent collaborator and client who is distraught over the recent passing of his beloved wife, and seems to be deteriorating mentally, in the television drama series Ray Donovan.
Gould has a film, television and theatre career that spans decades and includes memorable roles in such films as Robert Altman's M*A*S*H, in which he played the maverick surgeon Trapper John McIntyre, and Bob & Carol and Ted & Alice, for which he received an Oscar nomination.
Some of his other notable films include A Bridge Too Far, Capricorn One, a remake of The Lady Vanishes and Altman's 1973 film The Long Goodbye. He also received critical praise for his role in Warren Beatty's 1991 gangster epic film Bugsy.
In addition, he appeared in American History X, co-starred in the Ocean's Eleven trilogy, and appeared in the 2011 feature film Contagion, as well as the 2012 Fox Searchlight feature Ruby Sparks.
His Broadway theatre credits include Irma la Douce; Say, Darling; I Can Get It For You Wholesale; Little Murders; and Drat! The Cat!.
On television, Gould had a recurring guest role for nine years on Friends and appeared in guest spots on Law & Order; CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
