Cameron Monaghan is an American actor best known for his starring role as Ian Gallagher in the comedy-drama television series Shameless, since 2011.
He landed his big break in 2003, booking his first theatrical role in The Music Man as Winthrop Paroo opposite Victor Garber.
In 2004, Monaghan booked roles on the Fox series Malcom in the Middle and on Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. He went on to also book roles in film, including a large supporting role in the 2006 comedy Click.
Throughout 2009 and 2010, Monaghan booked a slew of guest star roles on some of the hottest series on television, including Fox's Fringe and Terriers, USA's Monk, CBS' The Mentalist and Three Rivers, and A&E's The Glades.
Monaghan's biggest role to date is in Showtime's series Shameless opposite William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum and special guest star Joan Cusack. The series, based on the UK television show, is centered on a lower-income family in Chicago; Monaghan portrays Macy's son, and Rossum's brother, Ian.
In addition to the series, Monaghan can also be seen as one of the leads in the Disney film Prom, released in 2011.
When not working, Monaghan likes to go to the movies, snowboard, participate in martial arts, and play the guitar and drums. He currently lives in the Los Angeles area with his family.
