Bio
Ellis Mnyandu is a South African journalist best known as the editor of the financial daily Business Report, since January 2011. Prior to that he was Deputy Editor of Business Report.
He joined Independent Newspapers, which owns Business Report, in May 2010 from New York where his role was serving as a Reuters senior correspondent, leading a team of Wall Street reporters covering the U.S. stock market and the myriad of corporations listed on it.
Before heading to the Unites States, Ellis was a correspondent in the Johannesburg bureau of Reuters, covering economics, business and politics. He also oversaw freelance reporters covering several Southern African countries, including Mozambique and Swaziland.
Ellis also previously served as a Reuters deputy parliamentary correspondent based in Cape Town, where he covered the political and financial spectrum of the South African legislative process and the transition from Nelson Mandela to Thabo Mbeki's presidency.
Ellis is a former graduate of the renowned Reuters Graduate Program that provides an extensive training and placement scheme on international reporting in London.
His work has appeared in leading publications and multimedia platforms, including the New York Times, USA Today, the International Herald Tribune, the Washington Post and Yahoo.com.
Ellis' formal qualifications include a Diploma in Library & Information Practice from ML Sultan Technikon, now amalgamated into the Durban University of Technology, and he studied Investor Relations and Financial Public Relations at New York University's School of Continuing Professional Studies.
Ellis and his wife live in Johannesburg. They have two children. Ellis is an avid reader and runner. He also enjoys the outdoors and travelling.
In 2012 he was a judge on the reality competition television series The Big Break Legacy.
