Kate Walsh is an American actress best known for her starring role as Dr. Addison Montgomery on the medical drama Grey's Anatomy and its spin-off series, Private Practice, from 2007-2013.
She debuted on Grey's Anatomy in the final episode of the first season, and went on to become a leading cast member. Her character on Grey's was so popular the producers created Private Practice, which revolves around her.
She began her career in a guest role on another medical drama, ER, and got her first big television role when she was cast as Drew Carey's girlfriend in The Drew Carey Show. She played the role in 21 episodes from 1997-2002.
Prior to that she had a five-episode recurring role on The Norm Show, and three episodes on The Fugutive.
She has also had recurring roles on The Mike O'Malley Show, The Mind of the Married Man, Joint Custody, Turks, The Men's Room, and Karen Sisco.
She has made guest appearances on the numerous shows including ER, Homicide: Life on the Street, Swift Justice, Law & Order, Cupid, Cursed, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Complete Savages and Eyes, among others.
Walsh has also appeared in a number of movies, including Peppermills (1997); Heaven (1998); The Family Man (2000); Anatomy of a Breakup (2002); Under the Tuscan Sun (2003); After the Sunset (2004); Inside Out (2005); Bewitched (2005) and Veritas, Prince of Truth (2006).
She has been married to Alex Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, since 1 September, 2007.
As a teenager, Walsh’s stepfather, a prison psychologist, paid her $5 a page to type psychological profiles of inmates he treated.
She was a runway model in Japan during the early 1980s. The Japanese were fascinated by her size and height (5' 10").
Walsh wa ranked #52 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2007 list.
