Bio

Jerrika Hinton is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Dr. Stephanie Edwards in the medical drama television series Grey's Anatomy.

Hinton landed her first professional role at age 11, staring onstage as in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, and launching a career in the arts as an actor, writer, producer and director.

Jerrika attended Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas where she studied directing and playwriting at the Meadows School of the Arts.

Hinton took the college experience seriously and by the age of 21 had directed three productions, produced four experimental efforts, founded a small theatre company, written five shows and been awarded an SMU Rosenfield Award for Playwriting.

She graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the university.

After college Jerrika traveled the US performing both classical and original works with numerous theatre companies - including, most notably, Viola in Twelfth Night (Utah Shakespearean's Festival) and the political-minded play she co-penned, Dreaming America (Echo Theatre).

Continuing her commitment to developing new talents behind-the-scenes, she moved to Massachusetts to collaborate with New WORLD Theater's annual Project 2050 program.

Since moving to Los Angeles, Jerrika has guest starred on a variety of popular shows including Scandal, Bones, Terriers and Lie to Me, along with landing a reccurring role as the popular Dr. Stephanie Edwards on Grey's Anatomy.

In 2012, Jerrika wrote, produced and directed the short film, The Strangely Normal, which received its US premiere as an Official Selection of the San Francisco Black Film Festival.

Throughout her career, Hinton maintained her commitment to fostering new work and community service, teaching at numerous theaters and serving as an artist-in-residence at the East LA Classic Theatre. Currently, she volunteers in secondary schools around the country at Career Days and by leading writing workshops.

While developing this dynamic career in acting, writing, directing and producing, Hinton continues to seek out meaningful projects filled with complexity, authenticity and intelligence.
