Elle Macpherson is an Australian businesswoman, television host, model and actress best known for her record five cover appearances for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue beginning in the 1980s, leading to her nickname "The Body".
She is also known as the founder primary model and creative director for a series of business ventures, including Elle Macpherson Intimates, a lingerie line and The Body, a line of skin care products.
In 2010 she became the host and executive producer of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. She is also an executive producer of the reality competition series Fashion Star and was the host for the first season.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Macpherson began her career in 1982 with a TV commercial for Tab cola that rocketed her into the modeling world as the favourite "Australian girl next door."
She has appeared on a record six covers of the Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit edition and executive produced her own calendars, which sold out worldwide, as well as an accompanying "the making of" television program in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
Macpherson expanded her success and created the "Your Personal Best - The Body" workout video voted the year's best by Billboard magazine in 1995.
Macpherson launched and continues to oversee one of the most well-known and globally recognized fashion lingerie brands, Elle Macpherson Intimates.
In 2005, she extended the brand into the bath and body category through the creation of Elle Macpherson The Body products. Her additional brand ambassador duties include being a spokeswoman for Revlon.
In addition, Macpherson has starred in such feature films such as Woody Allen's Alice, Sirens, Batman, The Edge, The Mirror Has Two Faces and many television series, including Friends and The Beautiful Life.
Numerous awards throughout the years have been bestowed upon Macpherson, including the Glamour Magazine Style Icon Award (UK) in 2006, Elle Magazine's International Style Icon Award (Spain) in 2006, Everywoman Outstanding Designer Award (UK) in 2007, Femmys Lingerie Designer of the Year Award (USA) 2008 and the World Career Award (Vienna) in 2009, among others.
In addition to being a brand ambassador, Macpherson has also devoted her time to several charities including being a European Ambassador for RED, an initiative set up to raise money and awareness for the Global Fund to help eradicate AIDS for women and children in Africa.
She also serves as an ambassador for UNICEF, supports the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (UK) and serves as an ambassador for the Australian children's charity Smile, which supports research into rare childhood diseases.
Macpherson currently resides in London with her two sons.
