Jimmy Carr is an English stand-up comedian, television host and actor known for his signature laugh, deadpan delivery, dark humour and use of edgy one-liners. He is also a writer, actor and presenter of radio and television.
Carr moved to a career in comedy in 2000 and has become a successful comedian. After becoming established as a stand-up comedian, Carr began to appear in a number of Channel 4 television shows, most notably as the host of the panel show 8 out of 10 Cats and also The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, a comedy panel show that airs in late December to review the past year.
Often referred to as "the hardest working man in comedy", Jimmy has so far performed his stand-up tour shows to over 1.5 million people in the UK alone.
Jimmy has eight live comedy DVD releases to his name including Live, Stand Up, Comedian, In Concert, Telling Jokes, Making People Laugh and Being Funny and has sold over 1.2 million copies to date. His tour show Gagging Order was filmed for DVD at the Hammersmith Apollo and, in November 2013, Jimmy's eighth DVD Laughing & Joking was released.
On top of his mammoth touring schedule Jimmy has been the host of Channel 4's 8 Out of 10 Cats, for 16 seasons and the show's special spin off show: 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown for four seasons.
In April 2013, Jimmy joined forces with David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Lauren Laverne once again to host the third season of 10 O'Clock Live for C4. On top of this he has hosted Channel 4's annual Big Fat Quiz Of the Year.
Jimmy has performed three times in front of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as part of the Royal Variety Performance and other television appearances include The Graham Norton Show, Have I Got News for You and QI.
A household name in the UK, Jimmy is also a rising star in the US, where his profile continues to grow. He has performed two US Comedy Central Specials and in May 2011 appeared on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien – his fifth appearance to date.
Jimmy's game show Distraction aired on Comedy Central USA and was subsequently repeated. He has also appeared four times on NBC's flagship programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
In March 2012, Jimmy performed in the Secret Policeman's Ball at Radio City Hall in New York, transmitted live in the US on EPIX and again in the UK on C4. Jimmy also performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival for the ninth time in July 2013.
With conventional media conquered, Jimmy is also a pioneer of digital comedy, topping the album charts on iTunes and with a large Twitter following. He was the first major comedian to perform within the online world of Second Life, and the results can be seen as an extra on the Comedian DVD.
In 2009, Jimmy recorded a series of podcasts, entitled The Writers' Room, in which he and his favourite writer friends chat about the latest news and events, exchanging anecdotes and quips, offering an insight into how comedy material can develop within a writing environment. The podcast proved a smash hit, shooting straight to the top of the iTunes download chart.
In November 2011 Jimmy and fellow comedian Frankie Boyle were recorded in conversation at the flagship Apple Store on Regent Street, with the discussion being released as a podcast via iTunes.
In 2014 he was the Roastmaster for the second ever South African Comedy Central Roast, of controversial businessman Kenny Kunene.
