Faniswa Yisa is a South African actress best known for her starring role as Gladys Sondlo, Bee's stubborn, troubled mother who is a nurse at the local community clinic, in the SABC1 drama series JAB.
It was her first starring role in television.
Faniswa made her television acting debut in 2003 in the voter education programme Khululeka, followed by guest appearances in the e.tv sitcom Madam & Eve and the Starz pirate drama Black Sails.
She has also acted in a number of films including The Final Solution, Avenger, Skin, Endgame and Twisting Fate.
Most of her career has been spent in theatre, however, since graduating with Performers Diploma in Speech & Drama from the University of Cape Town in 1998.
Stage productions she has appeared in include Janice Honeyman's production of Madiba Magic, a Baxter Theatre production of The Vagina Monologues directed by Lara Bye and James Ngcobo's production of The Suitcase, which was also staged at The Baxter.
Other theagte productions she has acted in include The Great Gatsby, Fire Raiser, Wit, Uhambo, Madea, The Jungle Book, Orpheus and Doubt.
