Lwazi Mthembu is a South African actress, dancer and singer best known for her starring role as Sihle, the sassy BFF of the title character whose 'can do' attitude always saves the day, in the SABC1 sitcom Thandeka's Diary. It was her first starring role in television.
She made her television acting debut in 2013 in the SABC1 anthology drama series Intersexions, in the cameo role of a nurse. She won the role when the show held open auditions in three cities in 2012 and was one of five new roles cast for the second season of the show.
Having studied for a BA in Performing Arts at Wits University from 2010-2013, she appeared in several theatre productions including Aqua Mine directed by Gys de Villiers, Once Upon a Life at the Wits Theatre and By the Apricot Trees, directed by Ntsako Mkhabela for the Grahamstown Festival of the Arts.
Her next television guest role was in the 13th episode of the fifth season of the e.tv anthology series eKasi: Our Stories. She followed this up with guest starring roles in the romantic comedy-drama series Mzansi Love on e.tv in 2014, and in one of the last ever episodes of the Mzansi Magic soapie Zabalaza, in 2016.
In 2015 she landed her first starring role in television in Thandeka's diary, a sitcom which follows the (mis)adventures of 16-year-old Thandeka Zulu (Busisiwe Mtshali), who often finds herself in sticky situations and has to be rescued by her sassy BFF Sihle (Mthembu).
She returned in 2016 for the second season of the show.
