Bio
Tonderai Chiyindiko is a South African-based Zimbabwean actor, creative and cultural consultant and producer best known for his role as Dr Makhubela on the Mzansi Magic soapie The Queen.
He achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Zimbabwe in 2004 and after relocating to South Africa did a Master of Arts in Applied Drama at the University of the Witwatersrand, from 2010-2011.
He has worked for organisations such as Harare International Festival of the Arts, Alliance Francaise Harare, Sibikwa Arts Centre, Dance Umbrella Festival, University of Zululand, University of the Free State Arts and Culture Office, British Council - ConnectZA and Goethe Institut Cultural Entrepreneurship Platform.
Aside from his work in the cultural and creative industries, he has also acted in numerous theatre plays, films and television series.
Stage plays he has acted in include I Do. Do I, directed by Larry Ndoro, The Trial of the Senior Citizen (directed by Bheki Ndlovu), A Kind of Alaska (directed by Nondumiso Msimanga) and Frontieres (Borders), directed by Mmabatho Montsho at the Market Theatre, in which he played a Zimbabwean refugee.
Tonderai first appeared on South African television in the role of Bedan Oliyenko on the SABC1 soapie Generations.
He also had a cameo role as a sponsor in an episode of the e.tv telenovela Broken Vows which aired on 5 February, 2018 (Season 1, Episode 215).
In the same year he was one of the "Candidates" in the Lifetime Africa reality makeover series Love @ Second Swipe, in which each week a team of experts completely makeover two people in the hopes of helping them find love online.
He was the male candidate in the series premiere on 25 October, 2018.
The following year he landed the recurring role of Prof Gwala on the Mzansi Magic telenovela Isithembiso, making his first appearance in the role on 25 July, 2019 (Season 3, Episode 84).
Later that year he appeared in an episode of the Mzansi Magic soapie The Queen as Dr Makhubela (Season 4, Episode 107) which aired on 24 December, 2019. He returned to the role for the following season, in 2020.
The following year he played the recurring role of Congo on the SABC1 soapie Uzalo, first credited in the role in Season 6, Episode 245, which aired on 12 February, 2021.
