Bio
Dreaming of being an actress since an early age, Academy Award Winner, Geena Davis, has become one of Hollywood’s most sought after actresses.
Born in Wareham, Massachusetts, US Geena completed her high schooling at Wareham High School having spent part of it at a school in Sweden as an exchange student - where she learned to speak fluent Swedish.
After finishing high school in 1974, Geena went to New England College in New Hampshire before going to Boston University where she majored in Drama.
After graduating in 1979, she moved to New York to start her career where she was employed as a waitress, sales clerk and Saturday window mannequin while she trying to secure a contract at a modelling agency.
Her break came when she was signed by Zoli Agency who featured her as a model for a Victoria Secrets catalogue. The catalogue got her spotted by director Syndey Pollack who cast her in her first on-screen production as April Page in the 1982 “Tootsie”.
Fuelled by the good reviews of both the film and her performance Geena moved to Los Angeles where she was cast in the short-lived but acclaimed TV series “Buffalo Bill” .
In 1985 Geena starred in her own TV show "Sara" as well as in two films: “Transylvania 6-5000” - with her first husband, Jeff Goldblum - and Chevy Chase's “Fletch”.
Following her busy 1985 year, Geena went on to star in several big-budget Hollywood productions including “The Fly” (1986), Tim Burton’s “Beetle Juice” (1988) and “The Accidental Tourist” (1988), for which she won an Oscar.
In 1988 she also did “Earth Girls are Easy”, followed by “Quick Change” in 1989 and in 1991 went onto the very successful “Thelma and Louise” for which she was nominated for another Academy Award and a Golden Globe. Lead roles in “A League of their Own” and “Hero” followed in 1992.
Geena then married director Renny Harlin and together they established a production company called “The Forge”. Their first film was the not-so-successful “Speechless” (1994) after which Geena played a pirate in their next film “Cutthroat Island” (1995).
In 1996 Geena starred opposite Samuel L. Jackson in the thriller “The Long Kiss Goodnight” and in 1999 became the mom of everyone’s favourite mouse in Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2 (2002). She will continue to play this role in the upcoming Stuart Little 3.
In 2000 Geena earned the whopping sum of $200 000 per episode for “The Geena Davis show” and in 2006 she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Macenzie Allen in the TV series Commander In Chief.
She is currently married to Dr. Reza Jarrahy, an Iranian neurosurgeon.
