William Windom (28 September, 1923 – 16 August, 2012) was an American actor best known for his role as Dr. Seth Hazlitt on the television drama series Murder, She Wrote, from 1985-1996.
He was known for his work on television, including several episodes of The Twilight Zone; playing Glen Morley, a fictional congressman from Minnesota based on Windom's own great-grandfather and namesake in The Farmer's Daughter; the character of John Monroe on the sitcom My World and Welcome to It, for which he won an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series; as Commodore Matt Decker, commander of the doomed U.S.S. Constellation in the Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine"; the character Randy Lane in the Emmy-nominated Night Gallery episode "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar"; and for voicing Puppetino in Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night.
He died on 16 August, 2012, aged 88, at his home in Woodacre, California, from congestive heart failure.
