Bio
David Tennant is a Scottish actor best known as the tenth actor to portray the Doctor in the British sci-fi television series Doctor Who, from 2005-2009.
Already a well-known theatre actor, Tennant achieved wider fame for his TV roles in Casanova and Doctor Who, as well as his film role as Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Born David John McDonald in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland, Tennant grew up in Ralston, Renfrewshire, where his father was the local minister.
Because there was already an actor called David McDonald, he adopted the stage name David Tennant (inspired by the Pet Shop Boys' lead singer Neil Tennant).
Performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company were followed by lead roles in several high-profile dramas for the BBC, including Takin’ Over the Asylum, He Knew He Was Right, Blackpool, Casanova, The Quatermass Experiment, Secret Smile, and Recovery.
Since his success in Doctor Who he has had numerous starring roles in television, in shows including Spies of Warsaw, Broadchurch, The Politician's Husband and The Escape Artist.
