Bio
Lizz Meiring is a South African actress, screenwriter, playwright, producer, director and performance director known for her extensive body of work in television, film and theatre.
She started working professionally as a student performing for PACT Drama, PACT Ballet and various TV productions for the SABC, M-Net and the BBC.
Since graduating with a BA (Drama) Honours degree from the University of Pretoria in 1983, Lizz has starred in numerous stage productions, television series and feature films, ranging from the "classics" to contemporary dramas and farce, sitcoms, musicals, pantomime and cabaret. She has extensively been involved in the performance, scripting and producing of theatre.
Lizz has translated plays from French and English into Afrikaans, co-written, solo written and directed dozens of plays and has starred in a number of one-woman shows.
She is also known as a TV presenter, voice artist, script editor, adjudicator for Arts Festivals and is a popular speaker at corporate and charity functions. She has worked abroad in Holland, Denmark, England and at the Edinburgh Festival co-starring with the well-known Pieter-Dirk Uys.
Lizz is the recipient of numerous awards, including the joint Vita Award and the Critic's Award - The Dalro - for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.
She also won the prestigious Ster Kinekor/Nu Metro film award- 2001 "The Golden Entertainer" of the SA Film Industry. Her nominations include Vita and Dalro Awards for best production, best new script, best director, best actress, best supporting actress, 2 Artes awards, and the Edinburgh Crystal Award for best leading actress.
Lizz is fully bilingual and has also performed in Dutch, French, German and Sotho.
