Bio
William Fichtner is an American actor best known for his starring role as FBI Agent Alexander Mahone in the action drama television series Prison Break, from 2006-2009.
He also has a starring role as Carl Hickman, a former NYPD detective turned criminal profiler, in the international police procedural crime drama television series Crossing Lines.
Fichtner graduated from the State University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 1978 and went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
In 1987 he began his professional acting career as Josh Snyder in the soapie As The World Turns. He appeared the TV series MD's in 2002, guest starred on The West Wing in 2004 and played Jimmy Minty in HBO's Empire Falls opposite Paul Newman and Ed Harris in 2005.
From 2005-2006, Fichtner starred in the science fiction drama series Invasion as Sheriff Tom Underlay. After Invasion was cancelled, Fichtner was chosen to play Agent Alexander Mahone in the second season of Prison Break.
Other projects include director Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, the feature Code Name: Geronimo, based on the true events surrounding the capture of Osama bin Laden and Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, opposite Matt Damon and Jodie Foster for Sony Pictures.
In 2011 Fichtner starred opposite Nicholas Cage in Drive Angry for director Patrick Lussier and alongside Antonio Banderas in The Big Bang for director Tony Krantz. In 2010 he starred opposite Steve Carell and Tina Fey in director Shawn Levy's Date Night.
Additionally, he co-starred in writer-director Paul Haggis' Academy Award-winning Crash. For his performance in that film, he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast in a Feature Film.
Segueing between television and feature films, Fichtner had a recurring role on Entourage from 2009-2011. He also starred with Paul Newman and Ed Harris in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Richard Russo's Empire Falls.
As a member of the Circle Repertory Theatre, Fichtner won critical acclaim for his role in The Fiery Furnace, directed by Norman Rene.
Other stage credits include Raft of the Medusa at the Minetta Lane Theatre, The Years at the Manhattan Theatre Club, Clothes for a Summer Hotel at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Machinal at The Public Theatre.
William is also the voice of the character Ken Rosenberg in the video game Grand Theft Auto and is credited as Bill Fichtner.
Fichtner was married to actress Betsy Aidem. They had one child and got divorced in 1996. He has been married to former actress Kimberly Kalil since 25 July 1998. The couple have one child.
His hometown is Cheektowaga, New York.
