Bio
Mark Evans is an English veterinary surgeon and television presenter best known for his 10 "...Is Born" documentary series for the Discovery Channel, in which he restores and builds cars, bikes, helicopters and planes.
Mark became involved in TV by accident.
In 1990 he complained about an item on TVam that made fun of fat pets. As an olive branch, the producer offered a very irate Mark the chance to be a guest on the show to offer his personal and professional advice to a 23-stone woman and her massively obese cat.
True to form, he was honest, amusing, direct and controversial. He didn't go down too well with her, but the producers and viewers loved it.
Since his fat-busting first steps into the media back in 1990 Mark has rarely been away from the small screen. He has now fronted over 1000 shows on a diverse range of subjects including pets, animal welfare, wildlife, gardening, interior design, travel, DIY, science, cars and practical engineering.
He has worked for all four terrestrial broadcasters in the UK (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five) and his shows on Discovery are transmitted in over 70 countries around the world.
Mark's passion is for science-related programmes and he has built a solid reputation for his ability to translate and communicate complex scientific subjects to non-specialist audiences of all ages.
Most of Mark's TV work is pre-recorded (studio and location), but his preference is for live and as-live formats. He is meticulous about pre-programme preparation and always presents knowledgeably and with authority, no matter the subject.
Mark enjoys working unscripted and has a proven ability to coax natural performances out of even the most nervous on-screen contributors. He is a likeable, engaging and down-to-earth presenter.
Over the last 10 years Mark has also worked as a producer on a variety of shows (some of which he has also presented) and he has co-devised a number of successful formats including Pet Rescue (Channel 4), Dream Machine (Five) and A Car Is Born (Discovery Real Time/Home & Leisure).
He also hosted the classic car restoration show Wreck Rescues for the Discovery Channel in 2007.
