Fiona Furey is a well-known voice on radio in Cape Town. Standing nearly 1.81m tall, she's a statuesque blonde, with a quick wit and ready laugh. She's always able to see the funny side of things, especially herself.
Fiona recently finished a two-year stint on P4 Radio, presenting the Fiona Furey Show from 10h00 to 14h00 on Saturday and Sunday, incorporating the South African Top Ten and P4 Hot 30.
She started at P4 in October 2003 with the Weekend Breakfast Show and within 6 months the listnership had increased by more than 76 percent.
Fiona's weekly comedy and sport features provided to be popular with Cape Town's early risers, as was her passion for and promotion of local music. She did a brief stint on the weekend House Party slot before settling into her most recent show.
Fiona is completely au fait with the both the local and international music scene. She started club DJ-ing in 1996 in London, playing uplifting funky house at University of London rave parties as well as numerous popular venues around the city.
She also made regular guest appearances at the Klitt Klub Promotions rave parties in Stockholm, Sweden, played Essential Mix sets on Purple Radio, fund raiser events for The Terrence Higgins Trust and produced the Miss Fifi series of mixed CD's.
In October 2002, Fiona moved back to Cape Town. She was resident DJ at the Buddha Bar for nearly a year, as well as making guest appearances in many other clubs around the city, before getting the call from Good Hope FM to do a slot on the Az Abrahams Show and launching her career in radio.
As well as making a name for herself both in South Africa and Europe as a DJ, Fiona plays the guitar and has presented TV shows such as Sports Wise (she's mad about sport and was a former triathlete) and worked as a continuity presenter on RWC TV.
As a voice artist, her distinctive voice is easily recognisable on many local and international and radio commercials.
Fiona was a key driver in the formulation of the concept of SABC3's gig guide show Noted! and plays an important role behind the scenes as a content producer.
