Bio
Joanna Cassidy is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Margaret Chenowith in the HBO television series Six Feet Under, appearing in all five seasons from 2001-2005.
From a psycho transvestite in Starsky & Hutch to the exotic snake dancer Zhora in Blade Runner, Cassidy has had a career spanning more than 40 years.
She was born in Haddonfield, New Jersey in the US, and got her start guest-starring in such diverse series as Mission: Impossible, Falcon Crest, Fantasy Island and Dallas.
Her film roles include Hollywood Wives (1985), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Barbarians at the Gate (1993), The Tommyknockers (1993) and Vampire in Brooklyn (1995).
She also supplied the voice of Maggie Sawyer in the 1990s animated Superman series, and has had recurring guest-starring roles on Diagnosis Murder and The District, as well as Everwood and Star Trek: Enterprise (as T'les, mother of T'Pol).
She also voiced the villain Hecubah in the computer game Nox.
She played Margaret Chenowith in all five seasons of Six Feet Under, finally winning an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Series in 2006 for this role.
She has appeared in episodes of three different series with her now deceased husband Robert Foxworth: Falcon Crest, Six Feet Under and Star Trek: Enterprise.
She was replaced by Paula Prentiss after two weeks of filming on The Stepford Wives (1975).
She auditioned and won the role for the TV series Wonder Woman (1976) but director Jack Arnold absolutely refused to be involved with the series unless he had Lynda Carter. Lynda had the role from that point on. Ironically, Lynda auditioned for the original TV movie version of Wonder Woman (1974) but the role went to Cathy Lee Crosby.
She also starred in a famous 'Smokey Bear' commercial in 1973.
