Ray Baker is an American actor best known for his recurring role as Dr. Richard Thorpe in the third and fourth seasons of the sitcom Cybill, from 1997-1998.
He is also known for supporting roles in numerous high-profile films, including Rain Man (1988), Total Recall (1990), Ed Wood (1994), Executive Decision (1996), Hard Rain (1998), Girl, Interrupted (1999), What Lies Beneath (2000), and Sweet November (2001).
He has made guest appearances in numerous television shows, including The Cosby Show, 21 Jump Street, Home Improvement, Suddenly Susan, The West Wing, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Days of Our Lives, The Shield, The Guardian, JAG, Cold Case, Without A Trace, NUMB3RS, Criminal Minds and ER.
He has also acted in numerous made-for-TV movies, including The Long Journey Home (1987), Heartbeat (1988), Parent Trap III (1989), Dark Angel (1996), Echo (1997), Oklahoma City: A Survivor's Story (1998), Ali: An American Hero (2000), Area 52 (2001), A Town Without Pity (2002), Alien Blood (2005) and Claire (2007).
Baker was born in Omaha, grew up in Colorado, and graduated from the University of Denver. In 1970 he moved to the East Coast, and began his acting career doing improvisational theatre in Boston and New York.
During 19 years in New York City, he appeared on Broadway in such productions as Crimes of the Heart, Is There Life After High School?, and Torch Song Trilogy, amongst others.
He also appeared in many in off-Broadway shows, among them The Proposition and Character Lines.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1989, where he now lives.
