Bio

Joel McKinnon Miller is an American actor best known for his role as Don Embry on the television drama series Big Love, from 2006-2011.

A native of Minnesota, McKinnon Miller began to act in high school and then went on to study opera and theatre at the University of Minnesota - Duluth.

After college, Joel was invited to join John Houseman's The Acting Company, a classical theatre touring company out of New York.

For three years, he toured the U.S. performing in plays which included Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, A New Way to Pay Old Debts and the world premiere of Orchards, a collection of seven Chekhov short stories adapted into one-act plays by American playwrights such as David Mamet, Michael Weller and Samm-Art Williams.

After touring, he continued to work off-Broadway at The Public Theatre, Classical Stage Company and in regional theatres such as The Hartford Stage Company and The Folger Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.

In 1991 Joel moved to Los Angeles and made his television debut as a guest star on the #1-rated show of that time, Murphy Brown.

Joel has a variety of film and TV appearances to his credit, including films such as The Truman Show, Friday After Next, The Family Man, and in After the Sunset, among others.

Some of Joel's numerous television guest star roles include Deadwood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, Boston Legal, Las Vegas, Everybody Loves Raymond and Cold Case.

Joel can also be seen in the films Bluff Point and Radio Free Albemuth.
