David Hewlett is an English-born Canadian actor and an Internet entrepreneur, best known for his role as Dr. Rodney McKay in Stargate Atlantis.
Hewlett reprised this role having originally played Dr. McKay in the episodes 48 Hours and Redemption in the seventh season of Stargate SG-1.
His other television credits include guest starring roles on ER, Without a Trace, The District and recurring roles on Kung Fu - The Legend Continues, Beyond Reality and the Canadian hit series Traders, for which he garnered two Gemini nominations for Best Performance in a Featured Supporting Role.
He had leading roles in Sylvester Stallone's television pilot Lefty, as well as The Triangle, And Never Let Her Go, The Penthouse and the critically acclaimed The Boys of St. Vincent.
Among his feature film credits are Nothing, Get Down, Cube, Clutch and John Boorman's Where the Heart Is, as well as cult favourites like Scanners II, Desire and Hell at the Sunset Motel, 'Pin and two films for the Sci Fi Channel, Darklight and Boa vs. Python.
Hewlett became hooked on acting while hiding behind a couch in Selsey, England, watching Dr. Who, where he realised that being a 'Time Lord' was impractical and not as well paying as acting like one.
Hewlett connected with several fellow sci-fi geek friends at the age of 15 and started making short films. He still runs with the same crowd, having made the feature films Cube, Cypher, and Nothing together.
He ran Darkyl Media, a web site design firm. He also founded Fusefilm.com, an Internet community for filmmakers.
Born in Surrey, England, and raised in Toronto, Canada, he now resides in California.
