Jesse Spencer is an Australian actor best known for his roles as Billy Kennedy on the soapie Neighbours and as Dr. Robert Chase on the medical drama House, from 2004-2012.
He also stars as Matthew Casey, a strong, intuitive lieutenant who is still coming to grips with the loss of one of his men and grappling with relationship problems, in the procedural firefighting drama series Chicago Fire.
Spencer's film credits include a starring role in Uptown Girls with Brittany Murphy and the biopic Swimming Upstream with Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis. He also starred in Spike Lee's independent feature Girl Is in Trouble.
Spencer has worked extensively in the U.K. and Australia, both in television and theatre. He starred in the acclaimed BBC drama Death in Holy Orders and has had starring roles in the BBC adaptation of Lorna Doone and Hallmark's Stranded.
He began his career starring in the long-running Australian soap, Neighbours.
The Australian actor's lead roles in U.K. theatre have included Terrence in The Modernists, directed by Robert Delamare at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre, and the title role in Peter Pan at the White Rock Theatre.
Spencer became engaged to House co-star Jennifer Morrison on 23 December 2006, after proposing in Paris. They called off their engagement in August 2007.
Spencer lives in Los Angeles. His brothers and father are all doctors. He plays the violin, piano and guitar.
