Sendhil Ramamurthy is an American actor best known for his starring role as the Indian geneticist Mohinder Suresh in the science fiction television drama series Heroes, from 2006-2010.
He also starred as CIA honcho Jai Wilcox in the action television series Covert Affairs, from 2010-2012.
He currently stars as Gabriel Lowen, an assistant district attorney who suspects that Catherine is hiding a secret, in the science fiction police procedural television drama series Beauty and the Beast, since 2013.
Ramamurthy was born in the USA to Indian parents, both of whom are physicians from Bangalore, India. He has one sister, who is a physician, doing a residency in a combined internal medicine and psychiatry residency program.
He and his sister were raised in San Antonio. In San Antonio, he went to Keystone School and graduated from there in 1991. He is married to actress Olga Sosnovska; they have one daughter, Halina.
Ramamurthy attended Tufts University initially as a pre-med major to follow in his parents' footsteps. He was also a member of the Kappa Charge of Theta Delta Chi.
He then became interested in acting when he took an "Intro to Acting" class his junior year as part of his graduation requirement. After participating in several plays — including Our Country's Good, he chose to change career goals.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in history and then attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, from which he graduated in 1999.
Ramamurthy has appeared in theatrical productions of A Servant of Two Masters in London's West End, Indian Ink at the Soho Repertory Theatre, and East Is East at the Manhattan Theatre Club.
He has appeared in the feature films Little India (2001), Death, Deceit & Destiny Aboard the Orient Express (2001), Thanks to Gravity (2006) and Blind Dating (2006).
He has acted in the made-for-TV movies In the Beginning (his screen debut in 2000) and My Sexiest Mistake (2004) and has had guest starring roles on the television series Ellen, Casualty, Guiding Light, Ultimate Force, Grey's Anatomy, Numb3rs and The Evidence.
Although the character of Mohinder Suresh on Heroes was originally written for a 55-year old, his audition tape and screen test were convincing enough for writers to rewrite the part for him.
