Bio
Chumani Pan is a South African actor best known for his starring role as Monwabisi Namane in the e.tv telenovela Ashes to Ashes, from 2015-2016.
Chumani was born and raised in the Eastern Cape, in the Soto location in Mooiplaas. He studied acting at City Varsity film and multimedia school, where he majored in acting.
He has starred in a number of international films, including the Ghanaian-produced, pan-African film Silverrain, winning an award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Mark.
Other films he has acted in include Special Forces UK, Ella's Secret, I Now Pronounce You Black and White, End Game and Bakgat 3.
Chumani's first credited television role was as Loop-en-val Radebe in the e.tv drama series Shooting Stars, starring in all three seasons of the show from 2007-2010.
In 2008 he had a guest cameo in an episode of the SABC2 sitcom Stokvel.
He next had a starring role as Malusi, Nolitha's happy-go-lucky brother whose taste for the good life lands him in trouble, in the SABC1 drama series Montana. The first season aired in 2009; the second in 2012.
In 2010 he had a guest starring role on the kykNET sitcom Deeltitel Dames.
In 2012 he had a guest starring role in an episode of the Mzansi Magic telenovela iNkaba. The following year he had a guest starring role in the kykNET period drama series Donkerland.
In 2014, Chumani starred in the SABC1 youth drama series Loxion Lyric.
From 2015 to 2016 he starred as Monwabisi Namane in the e.tv telenovela Ashes to Ashes. His character holds a Masters in Psychology and he becomes grief counsellor for the funeral home. He has largely rejected his cultural heritage in favour of Western psychological and philosophical beliefs.
In 2016 he had a recurring role as Mayenzeke in the e.tv drama series The Kingdom - uKhakhayi and the following year he recurred as Ntando in the Mzansi Magic supernatural drama series Igazi.
Also in 2017, he had a recurring role as Whitey in the in the Mzansi Magic drama series Isithembiso, making his first appearance in Season 1, Episode 118 (which aired on 24 October, 2017).
In 2018 he had a recurring role on the SABC3 police procedural series The Docket, first appearing in Season 1, Episode 5 (which aired on 19 September, 2018).
In 2020, Chumani had a starring role as Luxolo Dladla in the kykNET drama series Projek Dina, set in the work and living environments of a rapid response task force. The series premiered on 14 January, 2020.
Later that year he had a guest starring role as a doctor in the SABC3 medical drama series Vutha, in an episode which aired on 10 September, 2020 (Season 1, Episode 2).
Chumani is multilingual, speaking English, isiXhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans.
