Bio
Christopher Kindo was a South African dancer, choreographer, teacher, arts activist and one of the co-founders of the Jazzart Dance Company in Cape Town.
He received his training at the Royal Academy of Dance, the University of Cape Town and at the Boston Ballet Academy in the USA.
He danced and choregraphed for various companies over the course of his career including CAPAB, NAPAC, Boston Ballet (in the US), Pact Dance Company, Free Flight Dance Co. and Full Circle Dance Studio.
Christopher won various awards including the 1991 FNB Vita award for Best Male Dancer for his solo piece titled Me, about his history and experience of living under Apartheid South Africa.
He was also a consultant for the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, a committee member of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees and in January 2008 he was a judge on kykNET's reality dance competition Dans! Dans! Dans!.
He gave out the coveted Dans Kans-kaart on the show - if he awarded it to a contestant it meant they received a second chance.
Christopher died on 20 April 2015 after a battle with oesophageal cancer. He died at his brother's home in Cardiff Road in Simon's Town. His family were forcibily removed from their Simon's Town home in the 1970s under the Group Areas Act and received the land back in 2003 under the Land Restitition Act. He was 59 when he died.
