Bio
Julie Conover is an American television host, producer, writer and adventure traveler best known for hosting the travel show Passport to Adventure, from 2003-2007.
If there is one thing that she has known all of her life, it is that she had to see the world. After putting in eight years as a stock broker in southern California, making just enough money to sustain her travel habit, she finally set out to fulfill her passion.
She returned to the place that was always “home,” Lake Tahoe, and began working with her old college buddy, Mark Jennings. After many battles and much perseverance, the Passport to Adventure series was born.
It offers Julie an outlet for her creative talents, but more importantly, the opportunity to share the fascinating people and cultures of the world with the viewers.
Her favourite quote is by Mark Twain: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness.”
Conover’s passion has taken her to every corner of the globe, but her favourite vacation is grabbing a backpack and taking at least six weeks to explore a remote part of Asia.
“Travel gives each of us a fresh perspective on our lives and ourselves, and allows us to see everyday things with new eyes. This is especially true in Asia, where you are constantly confronted by something strange and so different from our privileged, hectic lives in America.”
Conover makes her home in Lake Tahoe with her husband David. They spent their honeymoon backpacking for six weeks through Vietnam and Thailand.
When she is not traveling, writing or editing, she enjoys beach volleyball, softball, skiing, photography and reading.
She also hosts and produces a local television program, Inside Tahoe.
