Shelley Spires
Lives in: Cape Town
Age: 22 Shelley is twenty one years old and is from Cape Town. “I’m a PA for a firm of Chartered Accountants – but it’s not as boring as it sounds. I live with my mom in a house in Sandvlei, so as you can imagine it’s very suburban bliss. I’m into moto-cross racing and body boarding.
“I love food, men, making people laugh, cocktails, Chinese noodles, movies, popcorn, church, smoking, the ocean, men, the sunshine, trees and men (oops how many times did I say men?!). I love going out, a good braai, movies, suntanning and going to the beach. My favourite actor is Johnny Depp and my favourite movie is Snatch.
I don’t like girly-girls, too much make up, baby marrows, praying mantis’, lifts, crowds, tequila, pain, arrogant people and when my hair goes frizzy. I’m addicted to the sun and surf and to excitement. I’m also addicted to smoking – I smoke fifteen cigarettes a day! Besides English I can speak a little French and Russian – mainly because my dad is Russian.
“My philosophy is ‘know thy worth’ and ‘those who stand for nothing – fall for everything’. My greatest fear in life is doubts that I will ever get married because men always cheat! I have two rats that I keep as pets, their names are Petrol and Diesel and they are the loves of my life. I also have a cat called Phoebe. I once had a buck, a zebra and an owl.
“I entered Fear Factor for the adrenalin rush and the fact that you can win R250 000. I think that I have an edge over the others because I’m practical and logical and crazy. I’m also physically strong. My weakness is biting my nails when I get stressed. To prepare I increased my exercise , meditated, prayed and practiced holding my breath. “The bravest thing I’ve ever done is beating up three gangsta wannabes who were bullying and beating up another guy at a house party. I was about sixteen at the time and got quite hurt in the process. Besides sex, okay maybe I’m joking, the most physical thing I’ve ever done is I’ve bungee jumped!
“The most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to me was standing in a mate’s lounge in just a towel, when a friend pulled it off and I was completely starkers in front of about eight guys! If I win Fear Factor I’ll pay off my debts (especially my credit card), buy a new moto-cross bike, pay off my car and give some money to my church. “
