Synopsis
Many years ago, a young man from humble beginnings in Gugulethu, Cape Town came to Johannesburg to pursue a seemingly impossible dream of becoming a comedian.
Ten years later this young man, now an award-winning comedian and recognized as one of the most gifted comics of his generation, celebrates his tenth anniversary in South African comedy with a show aptly titled Life & Times.
With his sharp wit, unmistakable charm and thought-provoking comedy style, Loyiso Gola has been enthralling, mystifying and entertaining audiences for an entire decade.
In Life & Times, an older, more enlightened and insightful Gola will bring to the stage some of his most celebrated material, amassed over a decade of performance.
The show is interwoven with a narrative that includes the events and people who have shaped the country and the world we have lived in over the past 10 years.
Given Gola's affinity towards frank and observational social commentary as well as a politically satirical angle that has been richly honed by his outspoken television show, this TV special is bound to boldly go where no other comedian has gone before (or dares to - for that matter!).
Loyiso Gola: Life & Times was produced by Podium: The Comedy Merchants, executive produced by Takunda Bimha and directed by Louis Bolton.
